The first macaroni factory in the United States was established in 1848. It was started by Antoine Zegera in Brooklyn, New York. While Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner was introduced in the U.S. and Canada during the late 1930s, it was during World War 2 that it became really popular, as people were looking for meatless entrees.
