Anyone who knows me knows how much I dislike wearing shoes. I prefer to be barefoot or wearing slippers. I love slippers! As I look across my room to my shoe rack, I see 5 pairs, plus I have 2 pairs in the car and 1 outside my door. They range from the $5.00 rubber slippers purchased at longs, to Reef, Ocean Minded and OluKai.

OluKai have fast become my favorite slippers, in the high class, dressy to everyday but not wear to the beach slipper category. These are the slippers that I wear with dresses or to nice dinners, case in point, a recent dinner to Orchids at the Halekulani hotel I wore OluKai slippers.

But OluKai is even more than that. Their slippers are designed to be good to your feet. Slippers have gotten a bad rap for years. Being blamed for changing the way people walk by causing them to take shorter steps and scrunch their toes to keep the slippers from falling off. Walking this way for long periods of time can lead to foot, ankle, leg and back pain. According to the OluKai website:

Our anatomical footbed is the heart of every pair. With its biomechanically correct shape, it supports and positions your entire foot naturally, allowing you to move through your stride comfortably and correctly. That means reduced foot, leg and back fatigue, better heel cushioning, and no toe gripping.

I have two pairs of OluKai, the Maile and the Lani models. Personally they are the most comfortable slippers I have ever worn. I can wear them walking around town and I don’t get foot, leg or back pain like I do with other slippers. On a recent trip to the mainland I went to visit my parents and wore the Lani’s to their house. I took them off, my mom tried them on and would not give them back! Luckily we were able to find them at the local department store and she bought her own pair! My mom has had foot problems for a few years due to many years of wearing non-supportive shoes. She wears OluKai and at the end of the day doesn’t have the pain she normally experiences.

While I can rave about these slippers, the truth is you will pay for their quality. Slippers and now shoes (OluKai recently released training shoes) will cost you from $50.00 to $100.00 a pair. It is up to you to determine whether or not it is worth it. For me and my Mom, it is worth it to avoid the pain other slippers bring.

OluKai footwear can be purchased directly from their website or at national retailers like Nordstrom, The Walking Company and REI.

OluKai is a Hawai’i based company that gives back by sponsoring events and volunteering. All slippers also come with a 1 year warranty, read more about OluKai on their website here.

So next time you are in the market for a nice new pair of good for your feet slippers, try on a pair of OluKai’s and let us know what you think!
